9800pro 128mb or 256mb?

is the 256mb version worth the extra $100? how much better would, say, DOOM III run? overall, which one should i get?
(on newegg, 128mb = $214, 256mb = $312)

Almost forgot, looking at the gaming benchmarks, I would say the extra 128MB's is NOT worth the $$$.

Not that you should put too much trust into THG, but yes 128MB would suffice.

Well I know there have been a few fishy things going on with THG, but that doesn't totally discredit everything at their site.
I do think the 128MB version should be plenty as games dont even use the full 128MB. While it is best to have more, I would think.
Depending on how much more the 256MB version is, If it were marginal it wouldn't matter, bt that is a good ammount more on it with the price you listed. I would say go with the 128MB for now.
The ati radeon 9800XT had better utilized the 256MB of memory tho.

If you can wait a little while, there will be a couple of new cards being released and the 9800 cards will go down in price. So it would be wise to wait.
If not that is still a pretty good price for the pro.

No such luck. Its not purely a matter of gpu speed to fill the bandwidth. Its also a matter of loaded textures by the game into the video mem. No game right now expects to see 256mb of video memory. Hence will NOT fill it. Most "expect" 64mb but can utilise 128mb at high AA and AF with high res/color settings. Still doesnt tap into 256mb by far. Another year or so. THen 256mb card with newest gpu will be a sensible purchase.
