Hey, I didn't change it!
gotta question I can't seem to find an answer to. Barton 2500+ is supposed to have an unlocked, unmodified vcore of 1.65v right? Then why is the BIOS, and ASUS probe, etc reporting it set to 1.81v??? I can't change it manually in the bios either, and the system locks up after a few minutes of playing CounterStrike. Black screen, only way out is a hard boot.
Drivers are all updated, on winxp. This is a brand new build I did ( had issues originally with L1/L2 cache being disabled by the BIOS....see thread titled "marathon XP install " for more info )
What gives? I need to figure this out soon, so warranty'd parts can get back to Newegg if needed.
Help?

I've had similar problems (not regarding V-Core) with games locking up hard.
Turned out I had a Interrupt conflict.
Swapped around PCI cards and all was well
Good luck.

Here's a strange too....look at the negative 5v and 12v numbers.
Am I dealing with a poor powersupply?

No PCI cards to speak of, only a radeon 9600se and everything else is onboard ( asus a7V8XX-X )

And as far as the locking up, it will do it in games mostly...unaware if it does it in a normal windows environment. I'd like to run a video stress test on it and see if it has anything to do with the vid card, but I wonder about the power supply being overtaxed, or if it is faulty ( 420w el cheapo ). This system isn't overburdened by extra fans, lights etc either, so it shouldn't be a supply issue ( amperage ), but I wonder about quality ( voltage ).

also noticed your running your Video card at 2x ? and the max is 4x????? If I'm not mistaken isn't that an 8x board? Do you have that set that way in the BIOS for a reason? Also, you should have access to the Vcore adjustment also. What are your CPU temps at 1.8V |

One word: Asus board
Palomino supposedly has 1.75V vcore, well, on my asus board, it's 1.85V.
At viaarena forums I was told asus ups the vcore for stability. I can't change it, in bios it's set to 1.75v, but asus probe/mbm read it as 1.85V. If I change it in bios, nothing happens. If I jumper it otherwise, it goes above 2.0V no matter what setting I use.
I won't get asus board ever again |

I have an asus mobo and I don't have problems with the vcore. I set it at 1.65v and sandra shows it at 1.67v. I'm using jumpers/switches instead of softset because I'm overclocking. I had problems with the mobo giving me false alarms but a bios reflash fixed it. Maybe that's what you need RF, a bios reflash.

Flashed the bios already....I dunno...I reset the bios to defaults also. I upgraded the ati driver and the whole system went haywire....endless boot loop. After messing with it ( even restore to last known working config didn't work ) for an hour, I got it working again.....hmph!
Temps are actually pretty low considering it's on a stock heatsink ( 44C )
I can't change the voltage in the bios...well, I can click on it manually, but it doesn't change once I've booted into windows.
I'm going to try running Aquamark on it tonight or tomorrow sometime and see if it is a video issue, or a problem with the game itself. It's just strange that this motherboard has everything screwed up by default. AGP at 2x? screwy.
