I had put a 40 gig 7200 rpm hard drive in my pentium 1 using a ATA add on pci card well it sort of worked had problems with pnp and device drivers cause MOBO so old could not find drivers so hooked old HD back up and had it running and it would not show other hard drive. I was going to load new hard drive off of old hard drive for drivers and so on well tried a few differant things and now i get incompatible ATAPI could it be possible that i have a bad IDE cable. Or did smoke motherboard
You need to make sure the pci controller card is properly installed with the correct drivers. Get the drivers from the manufacturers website. Then in the bios you may need to set it to boot from a scsi device. I have an ATA133 card and that is what the system refers to it as, a scsi device.
well ata card came with drivers on a floppy and i loaded them it will load the 40 gig and had windows 98
I was running the 40 gig but like i said could not find the drivers for the motherboard so put old hard drive back into try to load the drivers from one hard drive to the other had old HDD set up as master and new set up as slave and had system fired up but could not copy files from one hard drive to another so was moveing things around and i think my cd rom is a secondary slave and it wont boot now I did try hooking both of them off the ata card
just to update the old style IDE cables will fit in socket in any direction turned it around in motherboard and changed the master slave strap on my cd rom and now system comes back on .
I need to figure out how to transfere the info on old hard drive to new hard drive Thanks for all and any help
