tv tuner card for laptop & vcr copying capabilities

I have the ATI USB TV Tuner. It works fine for watching from cable or antenna, unfortunately it does not allow satellite viewing.

My problem is that I want to copy vhs tapes to my laptop and I cannot seem to figure out how to do this.

I need (1) help figuring out how to do the above or (2) an idea of a USB tuner that will do this.

I also would like to be able to connect to my tv or the pvr and copy some of the saved programs on my pvr. Copy them either to a vcr (not sure how to connect this) or copy directly to the pc.

Memory on laptop is not a problem.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Bobbie

you would probably need to hook the tuner up to the output of whatever you want to get stuff from, then play whatever you want to record. best setup would be to have everything going to vcr, then from that to tv and to that tuner. that would also allow you to record your satellite stuff to the vcr (play the show and hit record). i'm guessing right now the satellite bypasses the vcr or something.

I will try your suggestion on the tuner, but I think I have already done that and it did not work.

Yes, the satellite bypasses the vcr. The vcr is connected to the antenna so that I can record both satellite and vcr at the same time. I now have two vcr's so I can connect each one differently.

Thanks, Bobbie

what i mean is does the satellite go straight to the tv or does it go through the vcr? you should be able to connect both antenna and satellite to the vcr (of course this doesn't matter now that you have 2).

what ports does that tuner have on it anyway?

Satellite (pvr) box goes straight to the tv.
I think the answer to the tuner question is cable TV in, s-video in or composite video in, analog audio in.

I will test your suggestions this evening when I get home from work.
