old compaq

i have an old presario 5020 with a 300mhz celeron,i have heard the 300 celeron can be overclocked to 450,there are no options in the bios to change fsb or multiplier and i cant find any documentation on my mainboard (compaq 04c4h).is this possible on my old compaq?

Welcome to the forum!

look here http://h20015.www2.hp.com/content/co...1/bpb12301.pdf

they list motherboard jumpers p1 - p4 etc.

the celeron used a 66mhz bus speed....so maybe you can change it to 100mhz....that would be your overclock to 450mhz if it works.

Fromt he chart it looks like your motherboard will handle 100mhz so its just a matter of getting the jumpers right

It will also speed your memory up so if it doesnt work the memory could be holding it back

Without the options in the BIOS I think your outta luck.

I don't think (I may be wrong) that the older Compaq MB's had jumper settings for OC'ing.

Edit: Then, again, JP may be right.

Well the manual shows that motherboard being the same for the model with the 100mhz bus....so it may actually even run a P3.

the 5020 is shown with 66mhz bus and the 5030 with 100mhz bus but they have the same motherboard sooooo....
