Outdoors Can't get USB 2.0 to work

I want to use USB 2.0 but every time I cable a USB 2.0 device to my system I get msg 'Hi-speed USB device plugged into non-Hi-speed USB hub'. I have Windows XP with Service Pack 1 installed which is supposed to provide support for USB 2.0. I have also verified that my USB drivers are version 5.1.2600.1160 or higher as required by Microsoft. But something is missing. Does anyone have a clue where to go next?

What type of motherboard are you using? Are you sure it even has USB2.0?

Mobo is Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Yes, it supports USB 2.0.

El:

Haven't had any experience with that particular board, but:

Are you showing any yellow exclamation marks for any of your USB controllers in Device Manager?

It's been my limited experience, that when you have 6 or so USB ports, it takes a combination of XP drivers which auto-sense one of the controllers, and installing the USB drivers from your motherboard CD, takes care of the other USB controller.

Then, there's the chance that I'm making things up again - lol!

Check that Device Manager first, for anything "awry."

Maybe some info that will help here - you'll have to scroll halfway down the page.

Here is another from Microsoft.

Pretty much seems to be either a driver issue or a service pack update (SP1a) needed. If neither of these help, a quick Google search of that error message turned up 91 other results...

I think I found the problem and as someone already alluded to it as well. Device Manager had flagged a device yellow and UNKNOWN which turned out to be the missing USB 2.0 EHCI controller when forced to update its drivers. Everything is cool now, THANKS.
