windows / linux

i'm building a new gaming PC and i was wondering if all of the games that are coming (HL2, Doom3, UT2004) support linux. I've been using my mac for the past couple years and now i want a better gaming machine. I dont wanna buy windows XP either. Would getting linux be cheaper/free? Or should i just pay the 95$ for xp home.

well there are several verisons of games that install on linux (very few) the only one that comes to my mind right now is unreal 2003

there is emulation support to linux for games.

www.transgaming.com
and
www.winehq.com

transgaming cost 5 bucks a month, and has a range of games support that you can search. they just came out with winex 3.3 yesterday that supports steam. You need to remember linux is not design for gaming. Its designed for desktop applications and server side. But people like to play around with it.

Winehq is free but has very limited support and does not support all games either

i would get winxp pro than home.

from a pure gaming standpoint ... zero difference

the difference lies in more networking/security features if I'm not mistaken
(can't join a domain, and I think Home MIGHT be limited with NTFS somehow.... can't remember)

I do remember Microsoft saying that you'd get better framerates with XP Pro than you would the Home version but that could just be them trying to sell you the more expensive version. I wish I could find where I read that..
