old hp scanjet 3200c internal prob. please

i was about to throw away my old HP scan jet 3200c scanner, it was broken long time ago. the prob. was it wouldnt work, the power goes on, then thats all. the scanner doesnt light up or move to scan a document, so i opened the scanner. and the data ribbon (not ribon but paper make ( with lines) which would prob tell the scanner to move and work.

and i noticed on this data thing which connects from the main board of the scanner to the black big think that scans it is kinda burnt and brown ( over used.) and i can remove it and looks like i can replace it

does any one know the real name for it and any sites which wil help me fix the prob.

and would this thing be the cause of it not working

thanks

HP sells replacement parts for almost everything they make. Have a look at:

You can dig around in their PartSurfer, but they don't seem to sell anything but power supplies for your model scanner.
