XP registry restore

ok a friend of mine cough*mitadc*cough was tweaking his registry and now he is getting a BSOD when windows is loading and he didnt back his registy up before he loaded it...he does have a system restore backup to go to but i don't know how he would access that through dos....his os is XP pro

any ideas...all i have left is formatting but he says his mom would get mad if he did even though she has everything backed up

try safe mode

or you could probably try a repair install....boot off the cd...go ahead like you are going to install....obviously dont format....it will search for and find your current windows install and it'll give you the option to "repair" the install....you wont lose any data etc


also if worse came to worse you can still take that hard drive to another machine, put it in as secondary drive and get all the data off of it even if it wont boot

yeah i had him try safe mode which didnt work and i told him to do a repair install but he said it wasnt there so then he was like oh screw it my mom is gonna be so mad if i don't get this working in like 5 minutes and so he went to format and the repair option magically 'appeared'

LMAO yup. U know Kramers rule right ( I think it was him) Whatever can go wrong will go wrong. Funny thing is the only time I haven't backed up my registery when I have edited it was this time and wow it got screwed up. BTW TY Ande for helpin me. :P
