Gigabyte GA-7N400 PRO2 2nd Hard Drive Problem

I'm having a problem moving a 2nd hard drive to my box with a GA-7N400 PRO2. It can't seem to get past the "verifying dmi pool" stage. This hard drive is and ibm desktar 123gb. This hard worked (and still does work) in the other box I have.

Here's is the config information:

Sata 0: Seagate 160gb
IDE 0:
Slave: IBM Desktar 123gb
Master: DVD+RW

I have changed this master slave configuration to just about anything imagined, even eliminating the DVD+RW completely and having the IBM hd on IDE 0 by itself as master. I have it currently in the config above just for convenience (don't want to play with the jumpers everytime i screw with the hd)

The only info I could find was the faq at:

http://forums.amdmb.com/showthread.p...hreadid=266766

which says to disable dma if you have a prolem with it hanging at "verifying dma pool". I did this and it made no difference. I also updated the bios.

So the only thing I'm left thinking is that it might be the power supply or some problem with sata and ata100 playing along? The power supply is 350watt so I doubt it's underpowered.

The weirdest part is that the first time I test this config it worked fine! Booted up and I could go into windows and see the other drive in all it's glory. I rebooted and it disappeared, but I could still get into windows. Then I rebooted again, which left me in my current situation.

I hope someone can help because this is driving me mad!

Try this:
Go into cmos, f8 to go into the flash bios menu.

Disable save dmi data, select save to cmos and reboot, the dmi will be rebuilt on the next boot up.

Laterz,

I just had the SAM Eproblem. Had a bad IDE cable. Switched to an older one and WALA no more problem. Try that out. another suggestion.. silly but functional. change the clip around identifing the HDD as master/slave/cable select and if that doesnt work remove the clip entirely. Still not working? Move the IDE cable ot another IDE slot.

good luck

I've tried all these things still with no luck. The funny thing with disabling save dmi is that it only seems to do it sometimes, but when I did actually see it work, it still had no effect.

Any other suggestions?

Did you Fdisk the IBM HDD before you moved it?
Do you have install drivers for it?

I just had a ton of problems getting my board set up. My CD drives would shut off. I'm not sure what worked but I got it working.

1. Update BIOS
2. Load Fail-Safe
3. Press Ctrl-F1 to get advanced options in the bios and make sure the settings are correct for the drive

I also had memory timing probems. You should set the memory timing manually and set the speed to 100%. The bios overclocked my memory by default.

I would also recommed not using the nVidia SW IDE drivers. There are a lot of reported problems.
