Could a gaming Laptop last for awhile?

I'm currently shopping the market for a new PC. Preferably a gaming PC with lots of power and I dont have a problem with a desktop but I would love to have the mobility of a laptop, it would be well worth the price 2 me however their prob. not as powerful as a desktop of the same price. I'd like to know would a powerful laptop be able 2 play games down the road and last me for a good 4 years and would they be possible to upgrade with stronger components when I need to say play Half Life 3!!! Also what are some powerful laptops. I'd be buying one around May so I'm in no rush to see whats out now.

if it's possible you might want to consider one of the little box shape pcs. more upgradable than a laptop but more portable then a desktop. of course you need a monitor and stuff then but it just depends on where you plan to use it. for a laptop you'd probably want to get one with a upgradable graphics card and the highest end specs available. of course desktop replacement laptops dont have the best battery life so it would only be portable to a point (as in moving to somewhere and plugging in).

i would check out www.alienware.com they have some really good hardware there, and with some (not sure of all) have the ability upgrade the video card with a different one whenever you want... which kinda helps... but like starfury said, with any kind of real power, u are going to need to plug it in... but wireless internet is nice

LoL. I don't think you'd be able to build a PC that will last long enough to play HL3 well (if there will be such a game) let alone a laptop.

Just be sure and get one that has a Radeon 9600 pro, or the new Radeon 9700 which is currently the fastest mobile solution, and is comprable to a desktop 9600 Pro/XT.

Oh yeah, and if you want a light laptop with good battery life, opt for the Centrino, aka Pentium M processor. Or at the VERY least, a Pentium 4M... Do NOT get the desktop Pentium 4 if battery life and weight are an important factor. I got a Sony Vaio with a desktop P4 2.8 and a GeForce FX5600 Go, and although its fast, the battery lasts about an hour while playing a DVD at the lowest brightness. Its also HEAVY.

Battery life and weight ARE NOT factors. I guess I kinda want 2 replace my desktop with it and bring it around with me all over the house and to my friends house's and sometimes at school.

www.voodoopc.com <- Great Desktops and Laptops
www.go-l.com
www.powernotebooks.com
www.dell.com They are releasing a Gaming notebook based on their XPS desktop serries... should be good. Great performance and the quality from dell. and the best part, dell makes their laptops in seconds compared to alienware and everyone else.

I would go with a good powerfull laptop

Yeah I forgot to say that you should expect to drop at a minimum of $2500 on a "gaming" laptp but I would say $3000 is a better estimate.

I guess I'd be willing to pay that much. However in gaming terms how long do u guys think a gaming laptop will last and would it play intensive online games such as Planetside, Star Wars Galaxies and UT 2k4?
