Kids S-video vs. Coax (standard cable)

I have digital cable and a 27 flat screen TV. I have a s-video input on the back of my TV and s-video output on the back of my cable box. However, Its currently connected using standard coax cable from the out on the cable box to the in on the TV. Should I go ahead and get a s-video cable? What exactly does s-video do? Will/Where will I a notice it? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

S-video separates the various signals for improved picture clarity and color response while eliminating the need for active COMB filtering. You should notice a definite image improvement over your current analog connection.

If you have a decent display, then I definitely recommend opting for a s-video cable.

BTW, a composite feed is actually supplied via a small round RCA connector, not the coax connector. Composite quality falls in between your current analog coax connection and a s-video connection.

Mkay, thats what I'll do then. So I just need any old s-video cable? Is there a certain term I need to look for, like.. male to female or anything like that?

Just a standard S-Video cable will be fine. It will be male on both ends.

heh, ironically, while you were posting, I was at target's checkout . I picked up a GE Ultra Prograde S-video cable (6ft). They had the normal ones for 6, and a couple bucks more for the ultra prograde (10). So of course, I was tooken in with the big fancy words and since it costs more, it MUST be better *rolls eyes*, and got this one. It should be ok tho right? It says it has 24k gold plated connectors and its double shielded..... Useless right? :-\

Note: Both composite and S-Video are analog signals. Composite is 1 conductor, S-Video is 2 conductor and better quality. S-Video carries the color and brightness information on separate wires. Composite combines them and once they are mixed, it's impossible to get the original values. Even better than S-Video is Component (red, green and blue cables) which is how I connect my Playstation2 for a truly beautiful picture, no bleeding pixels whatsoever.
