Urgent question I need answered
I have a Intel D845EPI motherboard, and an Intel Celeron 1.7GHZ cpu. The question I have is, when I put the computer together, and turn it on, with the Memory in it, it shows nothing on the screen, and I get no beep codes. But if I take out the memory, I get 3 beeps. And according to intel, that means memory. Ive already had the memory replaced, but it still wont boot up. Ive tried it with the HD, cords plugged in, I even have the 350watt power supply recomended. The memory Im using is Viking 256mb DIMM Non-Ecc Unbuffered memory. And in the manual it says needs to be unbuffered, Non-Ecc. I Just got the new board back today, and it wont boot either. Im leaning towards it bein the memory, but Im not sure? It seems to me, like the brand of memory shouldnt affect it, but I guess maybe it does? Has anyone else ever tried using Viking memory on an Intel computer? Ive tried everything I can think of to get that computer running, but Im out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

What video card are you using? Have you made sure the connections are all hooked up correctly?
What actually happens when ya turn it on with the memory in? Do the drives spin up, do you get the floppy light & beep etc...

The video card works in other machines as well. I have had the drives all hooked up. And the green light on the Motherboard comes on when I got power to it. And the floppy and HD will spin up, but that is all. And the front case lights do come on, but it shows no HD activity. Ive contacted Intel about this before, but they seem to be no help at all. Ive got all the requirements for the board that it says it needs, but it just will not boot. Im still leaning towards it bein memory. I Have also cleared the CMOS out, and still dont work. So if anyone else has any ideas for me to try, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks

Have you tried isolating the MB from the case and using just the basic components?

Yes, as a matter of fact, the motherboard is on a piece of cardboard right now. Ive also tried it on an Anti-static bag to. Ive also got all the connections right(front led, HD activity, reset switch) Ive even double checked it all. I have also tried using just Memory, Cpu, and fans, and it still does nothing. Any more help would be apreciated

Have you switched the mem in to different slots, if two sticks try one at a time in different slots.

Yep, ive done tried that to. I put it in slot 1, an still wont boot, take it out, an put it into slot 2, an still wont boot. But if I take it out completely I get 3 beeps. And according to the book, that means no memory. Ive also tried the Cpu an Memory on a known working machine, an they both work. But for some reason, it doesnt on this board. I think that Im gona go buy a different brand of memory, and see if that helps. But seems memory is memory. Well, any more help would be apreciated

Well, it was another bad motherboard from Intel. I took it to a computer tech in town, an he put a known working processor, and known working memory into it, and it still didnt work. So he said the board was bad. I dont know what there doin at Intel, but they need to test there products out before sellin them. Either that, or when there shipping it, its getting scanned, and its ruining the board. And im completely out of Ideas in what to do with it. This is 3rd board that will not run, no matter what cpu or processor I put into it. Im thinking about just buyin a whole new board, from a local company in town called MachSpeed. Does anyone know anything about there motherboards? Thanks alot

Just for future reference... NEVER set the board on top of an antistatic bag... the outside is conductive ...the inside is the "antistatic" part
