!Critical Help Needed!

Ok, I done it this time! I tried to update my BIOS accoring to SiSoft sandra said my motherboard was. So I went to my mobo's website and tried to download the latest BIOS. After Windows restarted, after 2 beeps I get stuck on the Bios screen and I get the error "CMOS/GPNV Checksum Bad" What can I do to get my PC working again?? I have another PC so if I have to download anything to diskettes or anything at least I can do that. Please help, thank you.

What motherboard? Does it give you any options after the error like "Press F2 for setup"?

Did you actully attempt the update? You went from downloading the BIOS to restarting windows...what happened in between?

Also, when it comes to updating your BIOS...it's normally safe to follow the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" saying.

Yes, but I wanted to get 48 bit LBA for my new harddrive. It's an intel mobo using AMI BIOS. Accoring to SiSoft sandra, its an 845PT. I ran the update in windows, and it restarted and this is when I got the screen.

Sorry to hear about the BIOS problems.

How far did the update get? Did you backup your older BIOS?

What kind of screen appears when the System reboots?

If Black and no signs of a BIOS, you may have to writeor call the Motherboard Manufacturer for a new BIOS Chip.

If you have a Screen telling about you PC in the boot, try to re-install the BIOS off the boot or recover you old BIOS if saved from original upgrade.

Good Luck

ERrrrr

whoops
Duh, that help was useless if BIOS is borked

Maybe try something simple like clearing the CMOS.

You sure the BIOS is really bad? Your checksum error could just be that you need to re-enter the settings for your drives and such. You didn't say whether you attempted to enter the setup utility or not?
