Sony Viao laptop wont turn on.

I have made sure that I have the correct power adapter. Checked the volts and amps are correct. When I plug the laptop in the light on the power supply goes on but thats it. No lights on the laptop. Also the laptop is missing the harddrive and cdrom drive but this shouldnt matter should it? If I hit the power button nothing happens at all fan does not spin either. Could this maybe be a blown fuse? Is it fixable??

Need a hard drive!

Yes it does matter that the hard drive and cdrom are missing. You could boot without a cdrom but you need the hard drive. The computer checks an area called the master boot record on the hard drive when it's turned on. The master boot record tells the computer where to find the information on how to boot. This is a simplified explanation but in short, get a hard drive.

Are you sure you can boot a desktop without a hard drive? I've never heard of this and to the best of my knowledge it's not possible. The operating system is stored on the hard drive and the OS is essential to booting for any computer. With a floppy you could boot into DOS. I don't think you could boot into a windows environment with just the CD but I've never actually tried. These are the only ways you could possibly boot without a hard drive though.

My best guess is that it's the motherboard but I may very well be wrong.

I would check the motherboard. If you have the hard drive I would put that in there as well. What model is it?

Model # Fx-240

I figured out that the power connector was loose on the moterboard. I am going to try to resoldier it. I would somehow like to make the connector more sturdy though..
