How do I view Linux Mandrake from my Windows XP home

I have downloaded and installed real vnc on my windows.

I can view my windows machine fine from my Linux Mandrake using Tight VNC. I just type in the ip address for my windows machine. But I want to do it the other way.

My linux hard drive is way too small to install any other programs.

Any ideas. I'm a beginner with Linux and networking if you couldn't already tell.

Works the same way windows to linux or linux to windows......

Are you on a local network ??

192.168.x.x ??

You can find your linux box's local IP address by typing in a terminal window...

ifconfig

this will show you your local ip address for the linux machine. You have under linux 2 seperate programs for tight vnc ..... tight vnc viewer and tight vnc server....... you must start the server in order to have it work.

You will have to be more specific in your problem/and how you start your sessions in order for me to be much more help. Hope you get it working.

Yes I'm on a local network. Connected via router. I know how to use the vnc viewer on Linux to view my Windows machine. But when I use the vnc viewer on Windows and type in the ip of the Linux machine it has an error that it failed to connect to the listening vnc viewer.

So I'm assuming my problem lies with either turning on listening on my linux vnc viewer or turning on the linux vnc server. How do I do this?

you have to start the vncserver from linux. it will then ask you for a password, again to verify, then create a session starting with the number 1. you can do more sessions if you like but dont worry about that for now.

then you can connect from the windows box to linux by typing the proper address PLUS the session number. I.E.

192.168.1.100:1 < 1 is for the session number.

How do I know if vnc server is installed or where to find it to start it. All I seem to have is tight vnc.

I have a tiny hard drive for my linux 1.5gb with only 250mb left. So I don't think I can install anything else.

I did it finally. I used the rfb server (inside of networking, virtual network connection, then selecting allow control of my machine.)

So now I can view my linux machine from my windows in my local network.
