AIM opens with Outlook Express - Huh?

For some reason when I open Outlook Express AIM opens with it and prevents OE from opening.

The AIM sign on box sits on top of the OE logo box and OE is stalled until I close the AIM sign on.

When OE finally does open the AIM sign on box pops up again and prevent OE from connecting.

I close AIM again and while it "closes" a small portion of the sign in box remains until I minimize OE and then restore it and then OE connects.

I don't use AIM and although it is installed I see no way to uninstall it or disable it.

I use Netscape for mail and rarely use OE and only opened it the other day to help my sister restore her mail service when I noticed the problem.

Pics for your viewing pleasure:

Initial opening of OE:

And after closing AIM for the second time:

What gives?
