where to find command prompt programs

hi
having posted to a few forums, i have been given some very handy programs to run via 'start menu' - 'run' to solve many a problem. ie sfc /scannow, ipconfig etc. a few i have forgotten and was wondering where i can get a list of programs that can be run in this manner.

thanks

Every .exe file on your computer can be started in the run box.

Yeah..I used to like to do a search for "*.exe" and marval at all of the exe files....sometimes Id just run em to see what they did.

By the way...the "run box" is not the same as the "command prompt"

The "run box" is windows...the "command prompt" is more or less thought of as "dos"

Especially in w98se and earlier windows because you could start the computer in pure dos mode....its a little different since WinME and Win2000, Winxp etc.....in those the distinction between windows and DOS is a little blurred.

For example in winME and WinXP there is NOT a PURE dos mode...there is only a "DOS window"....that means you have a dos window open but you are still running in windows.

So some commands that WONT work in pure DOS mode....WILL work in a "DOS window"

for example I have w98se here....and if I were to boot to pure DOS mode and then go to c:\progra~1\window~1> which is the shortcut name for the windows media player folder.....and then I typed in wmplayer.exe and hit enter......it would probably tell me "this program can not be run in 16bit dos mode" or something like that.

But if I am in a DOS "window" in windows....then it would start the program in windows.

So there are some blurred distinctions there as far as the "command prompt" goes.

But the "run box" in windows is never called the "command prompt" as far as I have ever heard.
