Can't create dial-up networking file, greyed out in XP

I'm having a problem where I can't create a dial-up networking connection in XP Pro. Look at the screenshot - see for yourself.

I've checked MS's KB, reinstalled modem drivers, among other things, and I can't undo this. I believe it started when I installed my wireless card and it's software on my 2000 install, then upgraded to XP (again), but I can't be sure. Not every place I go to has broadband or WiFi access, so I need to use my 56k sometimes.

Any suggestions? I've tried porting a DUN file from 98se over to this, but it didn't work. I've also tried booting without my wired or wireless cards in, but to no avail.

does yer modem show up in the device manager?

Yeah everything registers clean - modem is detected and working, even uninstalled/reinstalled it.

make sure you have your cd handy then uninstall tcp/ip make sure you restart then just click on Internet explorer and it should reinstall including a dialer.
You may be asked for your cd during this. Sometimes laptops do not install as many files as a desktop.

Click 'modems' in control panel, set your area code (doesn't matter what you set it to, just set something to it).

It should work.
