Overclocking a 2000XP and ECS

I have a ECS K7VTA3 with an XP2000+ Cpu. I know that this motherboard can't overclock for crap but I was wondering if I could possibly squeeze alittle bit more out of my CPU. I tried to do this though by increasing the multiplier but all I got in return was a computer that had no post screen, let alone, the monitor wouldn't even turn on. Any suggestions?

Do you know which "revision" the motherboard is?? They had several revisions and versions etc

--------------------------------------

Dont worry about the multiplier yet...just try to bump up the fsb a few notches.

if it is running at, say..133mhz fsb...try to bump it up to 140mhz

I am not sure if that motherboard allows small adjustments like that or not...possibly not cuz I ran across this comment in a review----"You aren't going to overclock on this board unless you feel like penciling in your multiplier and voltage"

He is refferring to doing "the pencil trick" to unlock the multiplier and the older athlon cpus...so he might be saying you cant really adjust the fsb much.

---------------

also saw this..so this might end your oc'ing hopes for this board

"I told you that I would cover the overclocking of the ECS K7VTA3 motherboard here on this page. I am sorry to report that ECS didn’t include any options for overclocking your processor on this particular board. "

SUCCESS! I got my XP2000 and ECS Mobo to run stable at 1.900 (152 x 12.5)!! This is KrAzY. I thought that ECS weren't supposed to o/c but looks like i got lucky. Now if only i could get my 5900 to score around 15000 on 3dmark2001..

I just built one..

I got the Fry's XP2600+ (Barton) & the K7VTA3 MB combo for $89. Im running a little over 2.1 gig, very stable and around 44C. This thing went together easy. I was a little concerned with what I had read prior to the build but no problems what so ever.

No I wasnt---I walked into the store and bought it, went outside returned and bought a 2nd one (1 to a customer)
Then the next week I noticed they had the Barton 2500+ with the same v.8 K7VTA3 for $74 so I purchased 2 of them the same way, no drugs involved...
