Crappy 3Dmark 2001 with 9800 Pro

I got a Radeon 9800 Pro yesterday and ran 3D Mark 2001 and my resukts were quite crap, they were only 1400 higher than when I had my GF 4 Ti4200 64mb.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7564738

What is up with that?

In the meantime Aquamark scored 13,000 points higher than my GF 4 Ti4200

And Codecreatures ran superbly compared to my old GF4 with more than double to performance.

AMD 2100 @ 2600XP
512mb pc2700
Radeon 9800 Pro w Cat 4.2
KT333 mobo
Win2K Pro

what is your

cpu
mem type
see your set at X4, does your mother board support X8

my 9600 pro gets the same benchmarks...your 9800 pro should be up in the 16000 I would think.

That is not that bad, geforce4 ti4200 bench really well but in real games lack the punch you'd imagine, my ati 9700pro scores less than my ti4200(1200vs1350) but performs far better. Take no mind of the scores.

I benched really well in Aquamark and codecreatures, so maybe this is some ploy for futuremark to make me upgrade my cpu and mobo :/

I heard X4 and X8 doesn't really have much a difference, but not for sure. what speed is your mem? DDR>SDraM ??
what is your cpu speed?
'
I was told the reason my 9600 wouldn't go any higher was due to the fact that I had poor mem (which I do) it's generic DDR 333 pc2700 2 sticks of 256 (512 in dual mode)

my brother (SWEEPER) runs DDR 333 pc 2700 but runs a great brand of ram and his blows mine away in sandra benchmarks.

I have Generic DDR 333 PC2700 2 x 256mb sticks not dual as only KT333 mobo.

yeah I heard there isn't too much of a difference between 4x and 8x

i would still assume the 9800 should run better. With the Futuremark 3d2k1 and 3d2k3 benchmarks, they target the video card more then anything else, so it should be getting better marks then 12700...??? IT's odd..sry I can't help much more.

I get the same score in 3dmark 2001 with my 9800pro but i have pc2100 ram and a P4 2.2. And i think( if i remember correctly i get around 15,500 for aquamark 3 demo version im not sure on that though) I think all is needed is good quality ddr400 ram.

that's what I am assuming, once I get some money saved up I am going to get rid of the (generic) DDR 333 pc2700 mem I have for some good quality DDR 333 or 400.

I have 2 sticks of 256 to make 512

wonder if one stick of 512 DDR 400 would be better then running my 2 sticks of DDR 333 in dual mode?
