Raid 0 problem...

Hello. I have a little problem and wondered if anyone could perhaps help me. I am attempting to set up a raid 0 configuration for video editing. Is it possible to have a raid 0 configuration like this -

120 Gb Hard drive Primary master with Windows XP already installed. (on IDE 1)

2 x 120 GB Western Digital drives set as a raid 0 array for the video editing. (on the two raid connections)

I have installed all necessary drivers and set up the raid 0 array. The problem is that when booting into Windows from the primary master, the supposed merged drives report only 120 Gb. Using the Disk Management utility, it shows the raid array as 240 Gb but shows that one of the disks has not been allocated (120 Gb).

I attempted to format the unallocated drive from within Windows, but it just gave it a new drive letter and I ended up with 2 x 120 Gb drives (F & G) instead of one 240 Gb (F).

The motherboard is the Asus a7v333.

I apologise if this post doesn't make much sense

Any questions or info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Can you take a screenshot of what 'Disk Management' looks like?

Sounds like you need to delete any existing partitions and just create your one for the RAID0 array.

Did you setup the array from the RAID BIOS or from within Windows?

Hello. The Disk Management utility is shown if you right click My Computer and select manage, and then select disk management from the left hand side (Win2000)

I have (I believe) set up the raid array successfully from within the raid bios as it reports it as working.

Thanks for your quick reply

You need to scroll down so we can see your other drive(s).

Make it bigger and use ALT+PRTSCN to just get the Computer Mgmt window.

Hello. My apologies, but its not this computer that the drives are fitted into (soz), and I wont be able to get a screenshot until tomorrow. It shows the 2 x 120 Gb as one drive (Disk 1) with one half (120 Gb) being healthy and the other 120 Gb being unallocated.

Disk 0 |/////////////////////|
..........Healthy (System)

Disk 1 |///////////////| |///////////////|
..........120Gb Active.....Unallocated

Best I could do...

Disk 0 is (C) in windows and disk 1 is (F) but only shows as 120 Gb.

Like I said, sounds like you just need to remove the Active partition, F, and then reallocate the whole drive to a new partition. What is it being formatted as, FAT32 or NTFS? Please say NTFS.
