Win XP Problem!!!

OK heres the prob. I just formatted a week ago but somehow this is still happening. When ever i restart my computer it will go to the desktop but then it takes another 5 min to finish loading windows. I used that windows program that stops the backround programs from starting up and i still have problems(name of that program eludes me at the moment) I want to know what the problem is. It is happening on my other XP computer as well

bertschkid, I think you are talking about MSconfig to stop the other programs from starting. Will you list the hardware you are running? Are you recieving any "error" messages?

yes, system specs will greatly help as windows xp was made to display the desktop before the OS is completely loaded. this gives the apperance that it loads faster than other OS's but as you have figured out, it takes just as long if not longer. 5 minutes does seem unusually high, but system specs may reveal more info.

you're not telling us a whole lot about your system, ie what is in your startup folder, etc. you don't by chance have a second network card in there, do you? you might also have disabled an auxillary service which is necesary in your case.

and for starters, you should install sp1.

I have nothing in my startup folder. Maby this would help here is a list of processes in Windows Task Manager that are running as of writing this. I used MSconfig to get rid off all the backround programs except Norton. I also ran Ad-Ware 6 before giving this list of processes.

Finally I am in the progress of dloading SP1

Before I reformatted, I was having a similar problem. But with the new install, I decided to lose Norton, and it seems that startups and shutdowns are MUCH faster.

I currently dont use an antivirus, and my computer has been safe thus far. If I or something doesn't feel right, I can always go do an online scan.

Yeah i noticed that as well. But since I have formated again and again since buyin NAV i now that the problem i am having is not the same. Im thinkin I may have a virus or something that NAV is not detecting and that happened between the time i formated my computer to the time that i installed NAV.
