DSL getting disconnected?

Hey guys i got a major problem.

About ever since i got my DSL from AOL iv'e been running into a lot of problems. First off when i get a incoming phonecall, or a i make an outgoing one, the DSL line disconnects for a second and the modem has no connection (ready light is off). And i have to wait about 5 minutes for it to go back online. THen re-sign on to my ISP etc etc.

I have filters on phoneline jack in my entire house. THe phoneline is in the kitchen and i have a splitter that splits the DSL line to the phone line. and the filter on the phone line. Could this be the problem? Its gettign really frustrating playing competetive games and having to leave since your grandmother calls to see how you are doing.

Second thing wrong. Ever since my friend got AOL cable. My dsl line has been a bleeatch and is very slow. Took a connection test and got 201 kilobits per second? and a rating of medicore. What the hell is going on. I remember at least getting 600 lowest. But now my internet is crapping out on me.

Last thing wrong. When i play Counter-strike. And i know alot of you do. when i run net_graph 3 to see my fram rates (which is 200 fps )I see my LOSS and CHOKE. the Loss is always in double digits. And i tend to lag alot.. getting 90-100 pingage. my Choke goes UP whenever i try to change my rates etc. Before i used to be getting 35-40 ping no choke, no loss. What gives?

Any and all help is appreciated.

What brand is the modem you are using.

We have a homeportal and It loses connection consistently when the ambient temperature is above ~20 celcius.

We have had sbc yahoo for under a year and they have already replaced the modem once because it was doing the same thing that yours is doing. Eventually on the first modem it lost connection and would not come back on.

I used to work for BT Broadband and we used to get problems like this all the time. Although BT Broadband and AOL are different services they are the same product and your problem is either:

A simple error with one of your filters/spliters somewhere on the line. I know you said you have filters everywhere but if one of those filters has a small internal error then it could be causing this problem. Try removing every single filter/phone/fax/modem/sky tv/alarm anything at all that plugs into a socket and have only your DSL connected with a phone plugged into the filter. If this works and you don't get disconnected they you do indeed have a faulty filter and all thats left for you to do is find out which one and have it replaced.

Or

You have a problem with the wiring from the exchange to your house. If this is the case the only people who are able to fix this problem is BT themselves. Now don't go and ring BT as they will tell you to get lost as your not they customer. What you have to do is contact AOL who will in turn contact BT on your behalf. If they try to get you to ring BT yourself then they are just trying to get you off the phone because more than likely then are either just learning the job or are about to finish in a few minutes and can't be bothered to deal with your call correctly. However you will need to check for the above problem first be for BT will even lift a finger about fixing your line.

Hope this has been of help

Michael...

Fourthbean and mikie7boy, Thanks for the help. I am going to check all my filters. and if that does nto fix anything, i will contact AOL. with the heads up.

This is the modem i have http://www.broadxent.com/products/8012U.asp

One computer is hooked up by usb, and the other by ethernet. Im short one cat5 wire.. so i cant use all ethernet. But, that doesnt seem to be the problem since ive had it on usb before and it still disconnected.

What about my internet crapping.. running slower than ever now..

Get rid of the usb go all cat 5 and if you have a usb router or modem do not ever unplug it while the pc is on you will have all sorts of problems if you do. I know it says you can but take it from an ex SBC phone tech don't do it.

Follow the advice on the filters. don't pinch, coil or staple cat 5 cable.
