Outdoors new ATI video card installed now DVD rom won't work

I just installed a new ATI all-in-wonders video card and now all of a sudden my dvd rom won't read any disks!! Please help this is so frustrating.....I just can't figure out what the problem is. I'm running Windows XP home edition. Before I did anything I installed the latest AGP driver update and uninstalled my old video card software. Then I put the new video card in and installed the new software and now my dvd rom won't read ANY disks. The funny thing is the computer "sees" the dvd rom, it even says it's working properly, I clicked eject and it opened. I put ANY disk (dvd, cd, installation cd) in and I can hear it spin and see the light flashing and then nothing happens. So I try and click on the D drive and it says please insert a disk into drive D???? There is a disk in there!! I've tried to unistall the driver and it never prompts me to restart my computer. The driver just disappears and reappears when I restart. I even went as far as to restore to the day before I did anything and it still won't work?? Can anyone help me??

I bought a custom built pc from comp usa so I'm really not sure about the dvd decoding software, but everything in it was what I bought it with (except the new video card). I don't know if that helps.
I also thought that I might have knocked something loose, but do you think the computer would say the dvd rom is working properly if a cable was unplugged. I'm kind of new to this hardware intallation thing so if I did knock something loose I don't know what it looks like and where it's supposed to be plugged in. I guess I should have figured that out before I started messing around, but I guess that the only way to learn right?

if u installed the ati dvd decoder then it cud be the problem. i had the same problem once, i uninstalled the video drivers n install back everything except the dvd decoder. it has been known to corrupt playback of dvds. or u cud try the old dvd decoder from ati which will work just fine. while uninstalling the ati drivers try to use this http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/m...lystutils.html
hope that helps.

btw WELCOME TO TECHIMO!

the dvd decoder software is just for playing back dvd's though right? My dvd rom won't even read a cd or a software cd. I guess I could try it........it wouldn't hurt. Also about the cable being loose. I checked it and the ribbon running from the motherboard to the dvd rom splits into two plugs when it gets to the dvd rom. One of them is plugged in and secure and the other is a small white plug and it's not plugged into anything, but I don't see anything for it to plug into......does this sound like it might be the problem? Thanks for all the help!!
