PC Chips Processor Upgrade

A bit of a challenge, I have a PC CHIPs Mobo M748mr Excel 2000
I have tried to upgrade the processor. The Bios has an automatic setting that is too have the ability to change settings ?????
Looked for a new Bios upgrade and have not found one. Adjusted the processor from 66Mhz to 100Mhz times the factor of the proceesor, did not work!!!!!! Computer boot up screen black, returned to Bios set back to org, setting with processor and it again works. I just dont seem to have the touch.
One other thing processor is celeron 400Mhz with setting to 66mhz fsb and multi @ 3.5 = 233MHZ, lost as to why the 400 processor works at this speed and the computer reads CPU as 400mhz
ANY IDEAS or am I just stuck with no options of upgrading.

The Celeron 400 runs at a bus speed of 66mhz, not 100mhz.
Processor is multiplier locked so, it does not matter...

the multiplier is not locked on a cpu that old it may be done by a jumper though a 400mhz should be a 6x66

all celerons were multiplier locked . intel has been doing it from the begining. all slot 1 processors are multiplier locked . it should be 6 x 66fsb for the celeron 400 .

what was the cpu you took out ? what is the system specs please ?

Celerons ALL were multiplier locked. That's why it's ignoring the setting from the mainboard BIOS. 66 MHz is the correct bus speed setting for this processor. So actually you don't even have a question Everything's the way it's supposed to be.
