Kids Ping Of Death?

I was looking at my routers log and found this>>

Feb/14/2004 23:01:03 Ping of Death Detect 80.132.185.66:33368 199.126.42.113:6881 Packet Dropped
Feb/14/2004 21:23:03 Ping of Death Detect 80.132.185.66:33290 199.126.42.113:6881 Packet Dropped
Feb/14/2004 20:20:14 Ping of Death Detect 80.132.185.66:33140 199.126.42.113:6881 Packet Dropped

What does that mean? Should I be worried?

Thanks

just about every device on the Net gets port-scanned, pinged, or tested in one way or another. if its got an ip, it's gonna get hit.

the packet was dropped...nothing to worry about.

If I remember correctly, the ping of death is an oversized packet which crashes the network stack of some operating systems. I think system developers have taken steps to reduce the capacity of thier systems to generate a mis-sized packet.

Are you using a software firewall?

assuming you didn't cut or snip the log...3 packets in 2 1/2+ hrs ain't exactly a DDOS.

Hey ER that was the log from my D-link DI-614+ router and I was under the impression that the firewall built into my router was good enough >> no need for a software firewall.

PresterJohn I didn't look at the times until now. It looks like I didn't get hit too hard...

A software firewall will monitor outgoing traffice as well as incoming. Hardware's just going to look at the stuff coming in.

When I had 2KServer setup, Sygate would block IP's all the time trying DDoS (mainly from Comcast).
