try this , it sounds strange but it might work . turn off your pc and unplug it from the wall and go to bed . leave it that way for 24 - 48 hours then turn it on .

i had a problem not long ago and i think it was a usb issue . it would take an hour to boot and a long time to open apps when i first opened tham . i searched the internet and couldn't find a fix for weeks . well we had a power failure before i went away for a few days and when i came back and booted my pc it worked . i to was having long boot times . i think something in the usb is locked up . it sounds wierd but it worked for me might work for u .

welcome to techimo.

by upgrades from sony, i assume you mean you downloaded some replacement sony drivers. sounds to be you that you might have a system (driver) incompatibility somewhere or that you might have accidentally used the wrong driver for your particular hardware or os.

what OS are you running? you can try going into device manager and uninstalling both your cdrom and dvd. reboot and see if windows detects the hardware again.

Thanks for the welcome..

My OS is Windows XP

But how can i desintall them if they arent in the device manager...

Its like the computer doesn't even detect them, like if I dont have a cdrom or dvd...

You could always try searching for the filename of the drivers in google but with differant numbers. eg the driver you downloaded is called sonycd2110.exe or somethhing, you could search for sonycd1900.exe and after a few differant combinations you might find something. worth a try.

You wouldn't happen to have a "Sytem Restore Point" configured?

there also is the "rollback" driver feature...if you know what updates (drivers) you changed you can roll em back to the previous drivers.

If not, another thing u can try is to boot from the XP cd and do a "repair" install.....boot from the cd and choose to install windows....it will search and find your current install and give u choices..you should choose to "repair" the current install

I just remembered that when I installed the update, it was of Bios and then asked me to put a floppy in the drive.

What can I do with that floppy disk???

Thx.
