Kids Changing Hard Drive setup?

I'm wondering if changing my main hard drive from it's IDE connector to a SATA adapter (that came with my mobo) and then to the mobo SATA will that mess up my computer? Will I have to do any settings changing (other than enableing SATA)?
I need to do this cause I'm needing the IDE cable to connect to a removable rack setup for a hard drive (that i have to have for college). It wont reach the bays while it's connected to the main hd and i dont want to get another one.

that sounds like it would work. My advice is to just plug it in and give it a try.

Make sure that your SATA drivers are installed before you change it over.

well i got it changed over now. main hard drive running through SATA adapter to the SATA connector on mobo and rack is hooked to IDE and getting green light when locked (to turn on). now i just gotta wait for the other hd to put in the tray to make sure it works okay.

One problem I had is that when I changed BIOS settings my computer would refuse to see the usb keyboard i have. I had to go and get an old keyboard that uses the round connector (whats it called?) and change the bios settings to fix it. I had to switch the usb keyboard handling from BIOS to OS. once i went into windows and reinstalled the keyboard driver it works in startup.

Yeah, that appears to be a problem with USB keyboards. If you're not "set up" you can't run the BIOS! My manual tells me to "temporarily plug in a PS2 keyboard", adjust settings, power down & then switch to the USB keyboard.

Not a very cool deal if you ask me.

i wonder if the usb-ps2 adaptor for my intellimouse optical would work with the keyboard (if i could find it)

the bios forgets about the keyboard any time i change anything in it.
