Laptop, is it worth the $$

Hey guys,

My pops is looking into a laptop.
Being the person that I am, I want him to get the best he can get.
Well I want to get him something that he will use and not complain, but not go overboard.

I was looking at the Dells, but I came accross this e-machine:
The M6807

http://www.e4me.com/products/product...Machines_M6807

I think for the price it looks good.

My main concerns are battery life, durability, display quailty, and the general feel of the laptop.
Anyone know of this machine, or know someone who does or knows someone, etc, etc.

Thanks alot.

I checked the availability and it seems that most are out.
Seems to be a hot item, or eMachines did not supply enough

Either way eMachines seem to be bringing out more and more heavy hitting hardware for a decent price.
Hmm, are we seeing some competition to the Big names?

well for laptops, name brand is not something easy to draw a line on

if it was a desktop, i would advise you against it

bfcx do you have a link to that model?

Honestly with NY new Tax laws and online purchases, buying stuff on line is just not as good as it use to be.

eMachines has a new CEO. He seems to be dedicated to producing a better product.

I guess they are trying to get away from the name e-machine made for it self, cheap internet ready machine that lacks any power for a home user but is great for the avg small to med office.

It seems they are trying to get into the home and power user market. I say good for them. The more competition out there, the better for use consumers it is.

i personally would say to get a desktop and a pocket pc if he needs the portability because that is the best of both worlds and cheaper. but if he has his heart set on a laptop, it does look nice.

i personally just dont like the inability to upgrade and play around on the insides of laptops....

Well it boils down to space issues.
He wants to use this to be able to connect to his muscial equipment, and there is not much room left for a desktop plus a monitor.
Plus he might want to be able to take the laptop to a friends house.

I am looking into alternatives and weighting the price vs performance vs space issues
