Error message on startup

whenever i boot my computer, i get an error message saying "execution of the specific command has failed." i think its because i deleted some weird IRC program without uninstalling it (because it didn't have an uninstall program. couldnt uninstall through "add/remove programs" either.) i want to get rid of this. pelase help!

edit: it did actually start right after i deleted the program.

Go to this key in the Registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

In the right-pane, delete the entry for the offending program.

You might also check this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

And delete the program if it's there.

After that, just go throught the Registry and delete any keys that make reference to the program you removed. It's safe if you backup the Registry, I never do.

There's also some Registry cleaners, but I've never used them either.

You might also check and make sure there's not a shortcut to it in the Startup folder either.

You might also want to download and install MSCONFIG.

2K does not have msconfig but it can be installed.

Un-ticking any references to the program may stop the error message.

Not as through as ER's response.

Thanks for reminding me Bill, I forgot about Startup Control Panel

I've used it a couple of times and it's snazzy.
