I got iRipped-Off!

I just got ripped off on my AMEX for a iPhone.

The info says "CNP Internet" doing business as the Apple Web Store. The phone number is North Carolina State University book store. So they have got into someone's merchant account and had the DBA changed to make it appear to be the Apple Web Store.

I am sure they figure there are a lot of people that are buying an iPhone from the Apple Web Store and they may not recognize they were ripped off when they see the charge.

The scum authorized and capped $0.01 then after that worked they made another authorization and cap for $425.93.

What does CNP stand for? Definition of Card-Not-Present (internet credit card transactions)
Just means someone has your card info and is shopping with it on the internet.
Sure hope you contacted AMEX real fast and reported that. This time of year it gets bad because so many are out shopping and CC info is tossed out there alot in the real world and online. Crooks are hoping, as you stated, that at this time of year, you are not checking the charges too closely because of Christmas

I checked my Amex statement on-line and got a $4,297.79 charged for the same Apple Store with the same CNP Internet. I encourage everyone who got ripped too to post it here. I already called Amex and they will cancel my card. I also disputed the charged.

I had 2 iPods charged to my Amex that was a new card that had never been used. I was glad to see that I was not the only one. I am a PI and was getting ready to investigate my employees. If I figure out anything with this, I will let you all know.

Found this forum via Google, frantic as to how my AMEX card number got compromised.

My Feb statememt showed these fraudulent charges:

I'm in Minnesota, shop online regularly, tech savy never respond to email phish attempts, understand security as it applies to personal computing.

Most recent online purchase (using same card) just prior to this was:

I heard that cards are being compromised by hackers that find retail wifi systems that are only running WEP encryption, which is easily broken. I guess there have been some stories even in the news where security experts have gone around and found retail locations that are transmitting credit card info using antiquated WEP based wifi systems. SOX requirements dictate WPA2 is to be used for this.

I never perform any purchases at home via wifi, only on my ethernet connected pc. This would sound like a plausible way that my card got compromised.

My American Express card was used by this same place. I have 2 cards. The one that was used has not been used on line for several years. The only charge is the recurring Credit Aware. I would be really surprised if the leak was through this payee.

I use another AMEX card for all of my shopping.

I reported this to AMEX Fraud division. I was assured that I would not be liable for the charge. I explained that before I called them that I had googled the "Company" and this web site came up with the same charge I was disputing. I had planned to call them about the charge but when I read the postings I just called AMEX.

I use a MAC and my husband uses a PC. I found out that we have WEP encryption. I will talk to him abut using the other one.

On June 10 my AMEX card was charged $29.99 purportedly by Apple Computer, Austin. No way!!!!! AMEX with no problem credited the charge but this has been going on now for almost a year.

This just happened to me too. I checked my Amex statement and there was a charge for this same company on June 12th for $5.13. Now, I know that Apple is in Cupertino, CA, so it makes no sense to see an Apple Web Store in Austin, TX. I reported it to Amex just now, and they are crediting the charge and sending me a new card but it makes me wonder, why are Amex cards being targeted here specifically. Amex or another vendor that processes Amex cards must have a leak.
