I have heatware now . Traded with evilrick.

BTW that is a pretty good idea. I would hate to be ripped off and this could be a way to not be ripped off...not 100% but it would help.

Rick, I know what you're referring to, but consider: how did we all get started?

**Just re-read your post, Rick. YES, you're correct about registering on Heat. If someone wants to be trading, he/she would best register on Heatware. Declining to do so would definitely make me "move along" and not trade with him/her and raise my suspicions a notch. Ask the person to register on Heat first, see if they do, then proceed accordingly.

I think if we just carry through with the guidelines and wisdom already in place, we'll be ok. To wit:

Always check references.

If the newbie doesn't have any references, doesn't want to ship first, nor use a trusted 3rd party or escrow, move along and forget dealing with him.

The best way for a new trader to get references is to ship first to a highly referenced trader who might wish to do business, or to have a trusted 3rd party or escrow to cross-ship. You have to start somewhere, so start small and work up with trusted, highly reputed traders.

Always feel free to ask a forum moderator or TrollHunter or if they have any knowledge of the person. Be courteous - do this privately via PM or email, please.

Report any suspicious activity or evidenciary wrongdoing to the moderators and TrollHunters. Help keeps our trading forums safe.

Never be afraid to post an appropriate Heat on a trader due to fear of retaliatory Heat. If a retaliatory Heat is posted on you and it's confirmed legitimate, it will be removed. Heat serves us valuable information for free all the time - but only you can make it work.

golfcart, I love the 'heat' button. I wonder how easy that would be to hack in

Well, just because someone has heatware or another service doesnt mean it reduces the risk of getting ripped off THAT much (especially if you merely require a registration). You have to register to post on the forum... so to someone that has any kind of ambition at all whats one more registration going to hurt?

And yes I do feel its a neat and innovative idea, but I dont think it would change my feelings about buying /selling with someone all that much (unless the feedback was quite impressive).

Conclusion: cool idea, and if not a huge burden to impliment, then why not.. but I see it as more of a quick link convenience for members that have decent ebay/heatware etc, rather than a procedure to prevent ripoffs.

I don't think it would be too hard to do really. It would need an optional field in the user cp section for us to enter our heat ID number that would go into a new field in the database. Then it could be dynamically pulled up just like the rest of the buttons under each post. For example, my heat ID is 2332 so the link created would need to be http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=2332

It would be cool but I wouldn't expect Scott and the gang to go for it with all of the database woes that have happened in the past. We have already been fortunate lately with the removal of the cacheing and the return of the infamous black dots Maybe if it was coded to only display in the trader section it wouldn't create too much of a load. I dunno, just some ideas

Yes, in the traders forum is only where it'd be most necessary. I suppose we'll find out if it's viable soon enough.

I think just requiring some sort of contact/reference in the thread should be required.

Is it safe to say a good way to verfity any evals, feedback, etc. is to have the person e-mail you from the account that's listed? I know e-mails can be spoofed, but it's still a deterent for Trolls to have to do it.

Definitely a good plan, Rick.
