Post New Thread page suggestion

I see many threads (mostly by noobs though not always) where someone has a technical problem/question.

Then I see 4 or 5 replies from dedicated members trying to help and we never find out the outcome to the problem. Which, IMO, is kind of rude if the problem was solved even if not by one of the members.

Would it hurt to add, next to the message box,:

So that others may benefit
please post back the resolution
on threads regarding
technical issues and problems.

There is plenty of room for it and it might help mitigate this irritant.

Just a thought.

Bill

Arg, that's a peeve of mine... up there with ALL CAPS and double posting.

However, I'm not sure if adding your text will necessarily help any. Not to stereotype, but many of those who never post a resolution were hasty to type their new thread, and probably paid little attention to the text in the first place.

On the other hand, if it does get one more person to post a response, I believe that it is worth it.

An alternate wording might be:

If this thread involves technical issues or problems, we encourage you to post the resolution (if found) so that others may benefit.

There was a thread about this before....it would be really handy to be able to reference what worked etc....like registry hacks or common issues.

I must admit I have been guilty also of the same thing. Sometimes in all the excitement its hard to remember to post back...

JP, after some intense searching and deep investigating (involving turkeys on wheels), I believe you're thinking of the NEW MEMBERS PLEASE READ FIRST sticky thread. See number 6.

I believe Bill is suggesting something a bit more visible when a user is about to lay their problems on the TechIMO community. (There may be other threads you were thinking of.. but this was one that I found.)

here was the thread I was thinking of.

Interesting for me to look back at that thread and see how much my knowledge has grown since then...of course the only problem is that the pace of comp advancement is pretty swift also.

Well maybe not so much #2 but you get the point as far as being left in the lurch as to what happened.
