Flash Avatars?

Ok, I know this is probably not on the top priority list but it would be cool to have the ability for us to use flash to make our avatars. The vector animation could produce some quality low-filesize images for us to display

I am still learning flash, I am not an expert but I bet a few around the boards could come up with some really nice looking avatars!

Almost everyone should have the flash-plug-in nowadays so all that is really needed is to allow the upload of swf files if I am correct... I have been known to be wrong before though, hehe.

I haven’t already tried this so I don’t know if it is already possible, any ideas??

I agree, I like the sounds of having flash as avatars... sounds like a good idea to me... there are some pro's that could produce some fine flash art around here...

That would be cool. You could get more animation in and still have a smaller file size... Might be a tough one to implement though....

The problem is that a lot of people don't have the plugin, so every visitor that's browsing around the forums that doesn't have the plugin will get prompted to download it whenever a flash avatar appears on the page.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing too Scott.....

Maybe you could have an option to have "enhanced avatars"... same kinda thing where you have no avatars....

It is possible to check with Javascript if the user browser supports flash or not...

only an idea though

ibram is right... basically you use a small js to check to see if there's flash support. if not, you put up nothing instead and maybe a link to the flash installer.
