News overload

While i have to say that the increase of news on the site is on the whole to be welcomed but am i alone in feeling a little overloaded. There seem to be very few comments on individual items and fewer replies. I would suspect that with so much news comming in that items very quickly themselves way down the list shortly after being posted.

I would also suspect that there is more chance for people to read about some item of news if you post it in the forums rather than as news and i think that many people would rather not double post it. I don't know if there is anything that can really be done about it. The tech news discussion forum doesnt seem to be linked to the news at all which has me a little confused as to the purpose of that forum.

Increasingly i find that i dont look at more than the news items on the top of the page so i miss most of them. Surely there must be some way of get some controll over the news.

Any thoughts what do they do on other sites? Or is it just me.

Also on another point when you get an email informing you of news submission approval you get a link to all the news you have submitted but i dont see how to get to this from a link on the site.

I usually flush the front-page new daily with new posts, just as most other tech sites do. Most topics stay up for 24-36 hours before falling off the front-page, but are still easily accessable via the news page for anyone missing a day at TechIMO.

Not sure what you mean about the approval message. ? It is supposed to just send a link to the approved news you submitted. Once approved, it appears on the front-page along with everyone elses' news.

As to replies and commentary, we average around 8-16 legitimate replies offering analysis or discussion per day. Better than most sites I frequent when hunting news items to post.

The Tech News forum was established before the current front-page news policies were implemented. It hasn't been removed because some members prefer to post items that they may not feel is front-page news.

Best Regards,
Robert Richmond

About the news, it'd be great if TechIMO implemented something like what CDfreaks recently did, they put it in the users account to pick what they want to see as news. I, for one, don't read the development news as I really have no interest in it . But gaming and hardware, I'm on it! I don't know, would it hard to implement(?)
