Option to post w/out adding to post count

hey yall. have you ever seen a thread that was not in the community forum that you really felt the need to say something but could not really help with the problem, etc. and were afraid that if you posted you would get yelled at for trying to up your post count? well i have and i think it would be cool to have an option each time you post that if needed you can make that specific post not add to your post count. if implemented, this should not be an abused priveledge where you can thread crap all the time, but only used in important instances. anybody else like the idea?

anyone who posts things that are so irrelevent to they need to be yelled at usually are, so i would say thats a lame idea
also i believe some people would use it as an excuse to thread crap
sometimes i am about to post something, then before i click the button i decide not to and delete what i wrote..

Eh, i think it has a valid point on some levels....there's also the level that people take their post count way to darn seriously.....

I this Scott has much better things to work out then something like this which would not really improve the function of the site.

1) When have you seen someone yelled at for simply trying to up their post count??
2) If it is *that* offtopic that someone here would actually yell at you, then it probably doesn't belong, post count or not.

Yeah, I've got to agree with jkrohn here on both reasons. I'm a pretty "off topic" guy (not intentionally, but when I search through my previous posts it's easy to see how I've strayed somewhat) and I've not once been yelled at for trying to raise my post count.

I can see your reasoning - I just think we're all adult enough here to do with out it.

Na... this is not going to happen. Post count aside, we're not going to do anything to ""encourage" people to add off-topic or irrelevant comments to a discussion.

The whole reason for not allowing off-topic comments is because those seemingly innocent remarks and random thoughts tend to derail a thread and send it spinning off in another direction. This is both annoying and just plain rude to both the topic starter and those interested in the previous discussion.
