I have wondered that myself, I would think they have tools like that where they can do searches, Then again I guess they could use the techIMO search and plug in all the bad words and every thread it comes up with they can edit the post.

If no filter tool for them I would think that would be the next best option for them.

Edit: that might not work cuz search doesn't seem to be case sentitive, you would need it to be case sensitive in order to screen out words with like spelling. beginning and end.

one problem.. if you search for arse (the real word) every post with my name in it will pop up

I think its partly us users problem to keep an eye out for it and keep the mods notified if we do notice something not allowed on the forums. Mods can't police everything, so they gotta rely on us users to help out where possible

IMHO, This forum is very well 'moderated' compared to others. Some of the people here are passionate about things, but hey aren't we all about something ?

I don't think that kind of filtering work is really neccessary.

I think it is left to us to be good posters. and watch what we post.. and being aware of what we post.. we will think more on what we post..

If we didn't have to worry about what we posted b/c the filter grabbed it.. then how much effort extra would ppl put into thinking before they post..

Then we would have the ppl who would over use the filter.. thinking it was funny.. or complaining that there is a filter that replaced words that weren't bad..

no I think we are better off with no bad word filter.. it keeps the users aware of themselves.. and the community as a whole.. It's not like we have a problem here.. besides.. you keep a looser control on the community.. and keep it a clean place.. the user base will make sure it stays that way.. with the help of the mods..

I don’t believe in censorship, but if someone is blatantly and repeatedly using cursing in their posts it should be dealt with discreetly. I don’t see a problem with a few “bad” words if they are used in a way to convey a mood or dissatisfaction with something.

Most of us live in the real world where “profane” language is a way of communicating intense emotions, or just being silly with friends or what not. Those participating in public forums however, should choose their words wisely.

Actually, we really don't need them. Us members at Techimo are a classy bunch and take we our responisbilities seriously to always be decent. Most of us really don't need a "techno mother" to soap our mouths!

Edit: I would like to add one thing. I don't know how we ever got to the point where profanity in public is ok. It isn't ok.
If you are angry, exercise self-control like a grown-up! Anyone who thinks it is ok just dosen't get around the other 75% of the people very much!
My $ .02 rantlet...
