GeekReview takes notes from TechIMO
http://www.geekextreme.com/modules.p...howpage&pid=19
GeekExtreme has taken it to the masses! They are asking the readers to post reviews! What a novel concept!
Actually TechIMO has done this for a long time. Why am I posting this in the suggestion box? Well, I want to suggest that we revive our dead review section. It was EXTREMELY beneficial at our previous site. 1- Long delays in approval and 2- limited topics and 3-little viewer interest (maybe because of problems 1 and 2) have kept this from flourishing on the site.
I think we could make this very helpful if it were handled like the news and gallery submissions were approved. Also if different hardware items and other items were added, it would be great! (ie scanners, input devices (mice), software and games)
What'dya say?!?
Dave

Yeah, it would be a good idea if the ability to approve reviews was handed to mods. I posted a review of a lazer printer quite some time ago and it hasn't been approved yet.
Time to turn up the heat I think. |

Excellent suggestion! Many on-line venders, including some of the ones that advertise here, use reviews for hardware, peripherals & software in there ads. This would help those looking for items to read what others here think instead of someone just trying to sell them something.

I PM'ed Scott some time ago about this, and tried to submit some reviews but the system ate them or something
I used to find them very useful, especially for items that you can only evaluate after having owned them for a while (e.g. game controllers, monitors, etc)

I've posted several reviews 6+ months ago that were never posted......that's why i pretty much gave up on reviewing new hardware.

I agree that we definitely need to update the review aspect of the site. Scott is always developing new approaches to dynamic content, such as Photopost and the new Resellerratings). I honestly believe user driven TechIMO review content should (and probably will be) be at the forefront of TechIMO's development path once Scott has more free time to devote his attention to such an effort, especially now that our book will be hitting the shelves in the immediate future. He has spent an exhastive amount of effort in regards to the massively complex editorial and business aspects for The Book of Overclocking, so hopefully he will soon have more time to devote to ongoing TechIMO development projects.
As to myself, I have intended to start back to writing reviews and articles one of these days, but that idea seems to be delayed indefinitely due to more urgent and pressing concerns these days. Good intentions are great, but my lack of free-time has severely limited the amount of effort I can dedicate to such projects.

As Robert said, Scott has been extremely busy lately with several projects that support Timo, all of these are not visible to the membership.
BTW, his PM box overflows with over a hundred per day.
If you feel the item is important enough, you can e-mail him. sdw@techimo.com |
