Limited member forum?
Maybe have a "Water-cooler chat" thread where members can get together?
Something like community, but only allow member levels x, y, z use?
Like:
Community (all)
Community 2 (Senior +)
Community 3 (Ultimate +)
Or would that introduce too much "Hey, what are they doing in there" feelings? |

I'm sure it would be kinda cool for all us Ultimates , but imagine what it would be like for regular members when all the Seniors and Ultimates post in private forums instead of the public forums?

Well, over at Linuxnewbie, the /dev/random forum gets used quite a bit, but, that traffic allows first time posts as well as senior stuff.
I'm kind of 'Eh' about it, having been a peon nearly every other time I encountered ranking type stuff, though I do like gaining some privileges for having been around a while.
What would be the benefit of such stuff? What do you think would be discussed there (aside from the "Hey, what are they doing in there" feelings)?
Any topic imitations?
Is the idea going to allow relaxed standards because it is 'exclusive'?
Just getting an idea what the end product will become....

I don't see the benefit of such a forum. Sounds like it could turn into user bashing forum very easily (which is agains the FAQ as I understand it).

I thought the purpose of having a forum, especially a community like TechIMO was to make the knowledge available to everyone, not just an exclusive group.
I don't really see a benefit in having this, if anything it creates less of a community feeling to restrict user access to threads, but that's just my opinion.

What's the point? If it's just a "mine is bigger than yours" thing, then, like Groucho, I don't want to be a member of it.

While I don't agree with the whole ultimate forum thing, I DEFNIATELY agree with the banned members forum!
