Removing accidental double posts

Several times I've accidentally posted twice on the same thread, usually because I hit "submit" rather than "preview", but sometimes because the post somehow got hung up in process. I'd like to be able to delete the mispost, rather than have to report it to a moderator. Any reason this can't be done? I have editing rights -- why not deletion rights?

If you give people the ability to delete their own posts then whole threads will get screwed up. Conversations will be deleted and replies will make no sense.

True -- but I can already edit out the content of a post and achieve the same confusion without the help of a moderator!

Normally, I see the problem immediately, and want to get rid of the double post as soon as possible. If I edit a post before someone else posts, I don't normally see the "last edited by Theophylact at ..." notation. If I had a short time window (say, five minutes) to delete the extraneous post, that would handle any problems without introducing chaos.

With a short time limit I could see this as beeing a plus. I know I have made my share of double posts and posts that I simply didnt like immidiately after sending them.

but see if double post happened all the time then i would see it an issue. but if you don't like the thread, pm a mod. there is usually at least one on at all times.

if you make a double post edit the second post and just say oops double post. simple. doesn't cause a lot of problems

Not a lot of problems, just a Schönheitsfehle; as a lifelong anal-retentive personality, I like to keep things other than my desk neat.

Theophylact, you're not trickin' me,,,, you're just a Type A
personality!
Kidding aside, please just pm a mod with the link and which post you want deleted.
We will be glad to do it for you.
Actually this software isn't bad for the dreaded double post, the old stuff was terrible.. I'd get impatient and poke that button! (yes, I must admitt I'm a type A )

Maybe we could just make it impossible to double post????

I noticed on the-merge forums once you click submit the button goes transperant and you cant click it anymore!

Double posts, IMHO, are meant to test us all.

If it wasn't for double posts who would ever get to Ultimate??

I myself became Ultimate on a double post, so I have a soft feeling for them.

They are part of the magic of bulletin boards.

I. for one, would be sad to see them go.

Cheers
