Community Forum Suggestion

Anyone care for the idea of limiting the Community Forum to members with X-number of posts in other forums?

I really dont care to read posts from members that do not contribute something to the technical side of the forum. I know that not everyone can answer questions but they should be able to ask or at least give a point of view. If they cant then why are they here?

I believe the Community Forum is a priveledge and is a great place to understand the lighter side of most the great people that we learn from and teach to every day without getting technical. Not a place where someone with a hard on to spread their views of the world.

This is probably more of a rant than a suggestion. Please let me know what you think?

J

Hehe I'm thinking rant too

I can see an argument on both sides though. Community is an aspect that lets up lighten up.

but

Community is something that will keep people. There are a ton of technical sites that don;t like as much of a "family"

I agree that lately there have been some ill thought posts, but don't let that ruin the whole experience from those that are openminded. For the lurkers who learn everyday, though don't post much. For those that like the community more then tech.

Don't let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.
Just my opinion (that's what counts here right ?)
**edit**
grrr how did I get logged onto his account!?

Well, I know it's been discussed, and I think Scott is kicking the idea around.. I just don't remember if it was discussed publicly or privately among the Mods. But I'm remembering both.. It is a fresh subject though, so I think it's still in the cooker...

How many posts do you suggest the person have to get into the community? I think my suggestion was tie it into getting an Avatar status.. That got shot down.. Too many good posters in the community don't have that status yet.

I agree with you jkrohn, but maybe 5 would be an acceptable number, or even 2 if someone came with a problem got it solved then said...."Thank you"

What is the point of having members in the community Forum if they dont participate technically. If they are not here for computers and stuff then they wont likely click the tech oriented ads either. And with the addition of Resellerratings our membership numbers are already quite high so no need to attact members to boost memmbership totals.

So I ask, why do we need to keep people that wont participate technically or click the ads or promote our "family" of computer geeks...

Wow! This dea has actually been kicked around.

I agree. A low amount of posts would work. 10 or less. Like you said Surreal, even as low as two.

The Avatar suggestion is great. Probably a little high though.

Thanks

J

As something as low as two, fine, I'll take that.

I lurked for a long while back at the old place. Wasn't smart enough to help and a little intimidated, though I just sat back an learned. I think that a lot of people do this, only posting when they run into a problem.

Does that make them less tech oriented? Less likely to click on a tech ad? I don't think so, but then again just my opinion.
