Our personal rating

Some of us who have been here a while seem to get a rating of a sort. I assume this is a result of others clicking on the "review was helpful/not helpful" buttons. I would like to see more explanation of all this.

Initially, just your ID shows on your reviews, but after a while, we get 5 things that look like 'busts' (head and shoulders). Then, a while later, my rating seemed to drop down to 3/5, that is, there were only 3 of these busts under my ID. So one would assume this indicates some seniority and appreciation of our reviews, but it just isn't clear.

I've searched the FAQ and could find nothing on that. My profile indicates how many people found my reviews helpful, but not out of how many looked at them or how many total voted.

You used to be able to rate the helpfulness of reviews. If all your ratings were helpful, you had 5 "busts". If someone gave you a not helpful rating, it was equivalent to 1 "bust". All your votes are averaged out to give you your overall rating. Last I checked though, the helpful review voting is not enabled anymore (although you can still sort a store's reviews by helpfulness).

Another thing that disappeared was the number of reviews that someone has written. It used to appear in parantheses next to their name.

I have found many things have started lacking here at RR in the past year or so. I am very appreciative of the information provided as I use the site whenever I am preparing to order something on-line and always try to review the store. Just as of late, I have found it very hard to get responses to issues that have been brought up time and time again.

That being said, please RR return to what you used to be!

I was just looking at reviews and I see the "was this helpful?" at the bottom of each one and I can click yes/no; if you click on a user's blue handle, you will be taken to a summary of all their reviews where you can easily see how many reviews they have written and the rating on each.

It could be that putting a number next to someone's name was confusing, so they stopped it. If I saw that, I might wonder if that was some sort of user rating or a score like they have on eBay.

Hmmm... When I look at reviews I don't have that "Was this helpful?" link. I knew that the number of reviews can still be seen on the user's profile, but I was referring specifically to after the user's name on the store review page. It might be that they got rid of it for the reason you described.

I just ran across a user here who has posted 24 reviews in the last few years. Only one person had indicated that any of the reviews were helpful but that was enough to get the user a "5-head" rating! Oh boy!
