"was looking to buy a camera and I was amazed how many fraudulent companies are in this business, the first dozen companies are scams"
this is one area where the ones from New York ( Includes Abes of Oregon ) typically advertise low price in exchange for hard upsells or add on to your order ( extended warraties ) or sell you grey market cameras, I avoid pretty much all NY firms for that reason. I do not necessarily go for the lowest prices as I know the lowest respresents the upsell tatics of NY firms, I also do research from more than one rating site, like Epiniosn, Usenet ect.. I just made a major purchase on NewEgg based on ratings from another site and not this one. I also learn to read between the lines. I tend to discount overly glowing reviews and those who are screaming and whining ( like little children ) and tend to go inbetween. It has helped me on Ebay for purchases, and it has helped me on online purchases. Sure sites like RR and other can suffer credibility gaps from rigged accounts, but here is always more than one source to correlate data about a given merchant. Thats what makes forums so valueable, especially those that are not tied directly to a given merchant via advertising or direct links.
