email privacy

I for one would like to know why we are forced to enable email to sell something. I can see using it for notification, and administrative purposes, but there is no other legitimate reason to use it if the user choses not to. Sending a PM is quite good enoulf for contact to compleet a sale. I beleve this rule to be a violation of privacy if the user choses to enable the block feature. I know some say that your address is hidden, but that only counts for the site itself. Once the email is sent you either reply giving your address to the other user, or take the trouble to recreate the message in a PM then reply. Now if someone can give me a LEGIT reason for requiring it then I'll concider it, and no before you say it "we just do" is NOT a good reason.

It provides a 2nd means of contact in case a person doesn't reply to PM's. I for one don't check for new PM's very often.
It also provides some means of tracking down a crook.
If this is a big problem for you just use a hotmail type of address and not your ISP address.

OK I can understand that for those who don't read theres, but if you activate notices like I did then every time there is a new PM, post reply, etc then you get a message by email. I think a sugestion is to require one OR the other. Not just one.

WELL if you want to track down a person hotmail, and other such email is definatly NOT the way to go. people use those because they don't want to give real information. I noticed that this site tracks ip's. That is more than enoulf to track someone.

MaxCat,

We have rules for trading and compliance with all of those rules is required.

Members' emails are not shared, sold, or given to anyone with the exception of criminal conduct investigation and/or as required by law. Our privacy policies are listed in our FAQ.

No one is forcing you to trade here; if you don't like our rules then you are, of course, free to trade elsewhere.
