Post Per Page Setting...

I've noticed that if you view the forum through ResellerRatings, the Posts Per Page setting can go up to 50 posts per page. Yet, on TechIMO - the maximum is 30.

Assuming that it wouldn't place too much extra load on the server - would it be possible to increase this from 30 PPP to 50 PPP on TechIMO?

I think it was long ago, but as the server load went up the posts per page went down.
Having the RR forums set as such I would assume would be OK because 1. Less traffic to teh forums, and 2. less features overhead (hover over thread title feature, 'black dot' feature, listed page numbers etc)

Would be nice though

Vass is correct. ResellerRatings has a small forum audience with minimal overhead. If we enabled 50PPP as the the default at TechIMO, it would seriously impact database performance.

Still, I will keep the idea in mind for the next time we perform an upgrade of the database server.

I would never suggest enabling 50PPP as the default... My suggestion was to consider making it an option, for the few of us who would actually use it. Just as you can select to view 30PPP, while 20PPP remains the default.

Okay, that may be possible. I just enabled a 50PPP user option. Let me know if the setting works.

I will keep the setting available assuming the server loading remains consistent. Most people just use the default setting, so I doubt any performance issues will occur.

Set it to 50 - seems to use 20PPP default.

[edit] -- It looks like none of the settings work. No matter what you choose, you get 20 posts per page.

Just changed mine to 50 PPP Less page flipping.

Edit: Brandon's right - it's not working. I'll check back some other time..

How come sometimes there are only 19 posts per page, like on this thread?

Looks like the PPP setting has been hardcoded at some point in the forum's development path. I will look into a solution if possible.

I believe the 19PPP situation happens whenever a post has been deleted, though I could be mistaken as it is a rather rare occurance.

The default PP setting became a problem during the first round of caching that was attempted. I mentioned it in several of my posts complaining about the variety of problems caching created.

Anyway... maybe that can point you towards the gremlin. I am all for more PP, even getting 30 back would be nice =)
