Kids Lightweight Laptop Deal

I'm looking for a laptop no more than 5 pounds for a good price. I have a physical disability so I'm not able to lift a laptop that weighs more than 5 pounds. I know my options are limited, but I am hoping someone up here will have info on a good deal for a lightweight laptop. I custom built a nice one on Dell.com but it cost around $2800. I checked out a vpr Matrix laptop at Best Buy, but 6.4 pounds was just too heavy. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sean

Looking at Dell, they say the Latitude C640 is 4.4 pounds. These are mid-level business-oriented notebooks. Go for under $1500.

Office Depot sells a Sotec Mobile Celeron 1.2 Ghz that weighs 4.4 lbs for $949.

Price is good if you are budget constrained.

Thanks for all your help. It looks like most people are pointing me towards Dell.

Does anyone know when these ultra lightweight laptops will reach Pentium 4 status?

I'm running a P3 desktop and it's starting to become a dinosaur. I'd like to get an ultra lightweight laptop ASAP, but if P4 ones are coming out soon I would be willing to wait. I use a lot of BIG programs and often all at the same time, so I am trying to get a powerful, yet ultra lightweight laptop. I use voice recognition software (Dragon Naturally Speaking) and heavy duty mathematics/statistics software (S-Plus, SAS, JMP). Even my P3 desktop with 384MB RAM croaks when I get going on some of my projects. I know I originally said I was looking for a good $$$ deal, but if I need to spend some $$$ in order to get what I am looking for I can do it. So, if anyone does know what the future looks like for new ultra lightweight laptops I would love hear to what you have to say...

You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-mart."

A lightweight laptop

The lightest full-featured laptop with 14.1" screen on the US market is Asus M2400e:

As far as I know it is not that popular and only available from one place in the US (you might find it elsewhere as well). Granted the support for it might be questionable but at least Asus makes its own laptops unlike Dell.
Also the seller has good ratings.

I assume you are looking for necessary features first, and then price...?

Like Cubkid said... try IBM Thinkpads, a lot of them are really light and built to the highest quality you can imagine for a laptop.

They are a bit pricey, but it is for the quality and craftmanship, not just the features.

You can also try Fujistu Lifebooks, they are really light and small. The quality is pretty good, definitely better than Dell and Compaq stuff.

The smallest Lifebooks run on Crusoe CPUs, the same type of CPU used in those tiny Sony Vaio laptops.
