Let's see...I'm paying about $50 a month for what SBC Globalnet (IE Pacific Bell) calls 500-1.5 down/384 up. I'm not sure exactly how fast it actually is, but I download about 10 megabytes a minute, which is fast enough for me. I could get cable for cheaper, but I don't trust cable. Cable is amazingly fast-when it works and isn't oversold. I've heard lots of horror stories about cable (such as the ones previous posters have). My DSL has a steady connection, it never slows down, and it's always up. I think it went down once in the year I've had it, and that was just for a couple hours.

For dialup, I wouldn't pay more than $10-15 a month. Most places have several companies that offer unlimited, decent service for that rate (unless you live in the middle of nowhere).

Must be a different company. Optimum Online is run by Cablevision (ticker symbol CVC), a local NJ/NY/CT cable provider.

Sorry, if you want 8 mbps/1 mbps, you'll have to move to NJ, NY or CT (the roads are packed but our online speeds are awesome).

Check Out Hawk Communications

Check out Hawk Communications at http://www.hawkcommunications.com. They are under $7/month for unlimited nationwide access, with thousands of dial-ins.

We've been using them for about three years without any problems to mention. Good luck!

You might want to look at
http://www.spitfire.net/
They have dial-ups all over the place for $10 monthly. I have DSL through TDS Telecom for $39.95 a month. I LOVE it !!! I can d/l 25mb in approximately 4 minutes. Used to be 3 hours on dial-up.

You might want to check out copper.net based out of Ohio. They have nationwide POPs.
