Let's see...I'm paying about $50 a month for what SBC Globalnet (IE Pacific Bell) calls 500-1.5 down/384 up. I'm not sure exactly how fast it actually is, but I download about 10 megabytes a minute, which is fast enough for me. I could get cable for cheaper, but I don't trust cable. Cable is amazingly fast-when it works and isn't oversold. I've heard lots of horror stories about cable (such as the ones previous posters have). My DSL has a steady connection, it never slows down, and it's always up. I think it went down once in the year I've had it, and that was just for a couple hours.
For dialup, I wouldn't pay more than $10-15 a month. Most places have several companies that offer unlimited, decent service for that rate (unless you live in the middle of nowhere).
