Intel Gigabit NIC - $49 @ NewEgg

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ion=33-106-105

3 Day Special...

10/100/1000 Intel PCI NIC

Buy two and a Cat5e Crossover, and you got yourself a gigabit connection.

I'm low on funds right now, but definitly considering it...hmm.

$45 for the OEM if you want to save 4 bucks.

However, the OEM one isnt on 3 day special, so if its 4+ days later, you can probably still get it for $45 shipped OEM.

I can't max out my 100 meg Ethernet NIC on my small home network. This wouldn't really do anything for you unless you have a commercial grade server running somewhere.

Would someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Actually Scott I was goign to say that same thing...
Nobody at home (ok very few) would have any need whatsoever with a gigabit NIC.
You would also have to have a gigabit switch .. if not you're going to get negotiated down to 100 anyways...
Not to mention unless you're CONSTANTLY moving LAAARGE files.. its generally worthless for home use
If you move an OS image once every 6 months.. yeah thats one large file, but after that what good does itdo?
Your game won't run any faster on LAN's either.

Thanks... That's what I was thinking. I used to back up my MP3 collection to another machine periodically but now I just copy to another HD on the same box since I dual boot now....

I got 5 Linksys Etherfast 10/100 recently at CompUSA for half of what one of those cost. That's fast enough for me but thanks for the heads-up, AuraEdge.

As AuraEdge noted at the beginning of the thread, all you need is a crossover cable. You only need the switch if you want to network more than two PC's.

I realize that, but my thought processes is always use a switch in case somebody comes over for a LAN Game
If you have crossover cables then you're limited to the number of clients on your network..
