This is hard for me to believe as I paid $70 for mine and that was after a BIG rebate and special sale for this same cable modem only 8 or 9 months ago!

Yes, the cable internet providers (at least ATT) are playing games with rates but even with the upcoming changes that have only $3.00 a month discount for owning your own modem, you can amortize this in 5 months plus whatever they charge you to "provision" it. (They charged me $10 eight or nine months ago.) After that you'll save $36 a year by having your own modem - and THAT doesn't require sending in for a rebate!
